| BUILDING ON A THEME
I have had the opportunity to tour through many
One way to make your house feel truly custom and well thought out is to
have a theme or a special element throughout. In some of the
grander homes I have seen, craftsmen At the Biltmore house in Asheville, North Carolina, you can see Mr. Vanderbilt's initials as a repeated theme at Biltmore, both inside and out.
We decided that at Ashland Hall we would use a heraldic lion as a theme.
There is one in carved stone on the front of the house, a lion doorbell
at the front door and then several more throughout the home. You have to
be careful not to overdo it or your home will look more like a theme
park than a castle.
A secondary theme throughout the house and gardens is a *heart*. Some are very apparent while others would take a bit of effort to find. ************** Time Lapse Photos of the Construction
