DUELING DISHWASHERS

I thought that my idea of having two dishwashers in the kitchen was a pretty good idea, but after living in the house nearly two weeks, Athena and I agree that it is a brilliant idea for us.

We have two children and since we eat most of our meals at home, we easily fill up a dishwasher load each day. Depending on what we have prepared or if we have company, we can sometimes fill up two.

In the old house, we would regularly have a dishwasher full of dirty (or clean) dishes AND a number of dirty dishes on the table or countertop, waiting for an empty dishwasher. Now, there is always an empty dishwasher to immediately put away dishes after a meal. It has made a world of difference in the appearance of the kitchen, which is even more important in our new open floor plan.

Even the children are getting in on the act, taking their dirty dishes after the meal, and putting them in the dishwasher.

I have known a lot of people who don't really use their dishwashers or they waste time by washing the dishes before they go in because the dishwasher doesn't function very well. We have had a few dishwashers over the years in our various homes and all of them have performed exceedingly well. We always research them on Consumer Reports.

Surprisingly, a good dishwasher doesn't cost much more than a good kitchen cabinet so you aren't looking at shelling out much extra money. And it typically uses less water than washing by hand.

Dueling dishwashers. Our favorite thing so far.
