Building Our Custom Home

DECISIONS, DECISIONS

When you are building a custom home that you plan to live in a long time (or the rest of your life as we are) then the decisions you make are all the more crucial.

It has now come to the point where Athena and I have to make a lot of decisions about many of the elements of the house. This week and for the next few weeks to come we have to make important choices by picking out brick, shingles, sinks, faucets, bathtubs, cabinets, countertops, doorknobs, light fixtures, paint colors and many other items we don't usually think about (like hinges and toilets).

Fortunately, Athena and I have always been drawn to more "traditional" styles, so most of our choices will probably still be considered "stylish" 50 years from now. But it is still stressful to pick the "perfect" items that we will still love 10, 20 and 30 years from now.

I can definitely see why certain people would only want to buy an existing home or would hire a decorator to make many of these decisions for them.
