Building Our Custom Home |
| WINDOW TINTING In one of our former homes we installed hardwood floors. A couple of years later when we moved out we saw a very distinctive outline where we had a rug on the floor. The UV rays and sunlight had faded the floors very quickly. We spend a ton of money on wood floors, beautiful drapery and nicely upholstered furniture but we often don't spend just a little more to help them last much, much longer.
Wood floors are indeed one of the best investments you can make in a
home because they can last The most important windows to get UV film on are those where direct sunlight is steaming in. That combination of heat, light and UV rays are the most destructive. However, UV rays are transmitted even when the sun isnt directly coming into the window so all windows in a room should be covered if you can do it.
To save a lot of money you can do the window film/tinting yourself, but
if you dont do a good job All the big makers like 3M and VistaFilms offer lifetime replacement warranty if they do the installation so it might be worth the extra expense to get that warranty. Another great benefit with getting your windows tinted (just slightly so the eye cant really tell) is that it dramatically cuts down on the glare and everything outside looks much clearer and crisper. There is a small amount of energy savings associated with window films although I wouldnt do it for that reason alone. One more positive thing is that a window film will also prevent the window glass from shattering from either an accident or even a potential break in. A lot of homes in hurricane prone places are now getting the films put on their windows for that reason.
