Building Our Custom Home |
| WATER FOR WORKERS Ashton and I loved going out to the property every day during the framing stage because you could literally see the house changing by the hour. Unfortunately for the framers, the construction took place during the heat of the summer with some days in the mid 90s. Part of our daily routine was stopping by the gas station to get a bag of ice to pour over the bottles of water we had in our cooler chest. We had enough for me and Ashton and for the crew. When the sun really started beating down we would head to the car and pull out the ice cold bottles of water and would bring them to the framing crew. They were always delighted. Occasionally we brought ice cream sandwiches for the workers and toward the end of the framing we brought a couple of buckets of chicken for them. Our small gifts were little tokens of thanks for the great job they were doing for us. I believe our gifts of endearment made them work even harder to build the house of our dreams. They weren't simply building a house for strangers, but for a family that cared for them and shared with them. When they were about done with the framing we gave them a sharpie marker and asked them to sign a couple of saw horses they were going to be leaving at the property for us. Now whenever we use the saw horses we will remember the smiling faces of the men who built our house.
