Building Our Custom Home

WHAT'S IN THE WALL?

Several years ago we remodeled the kitchen in the home we currently live in. Part of the remodeling effort meant tearing out walls.

Big surprises.

We had no idea that an air duct was running up one of the walls we were tearing out. There was some electrical in the walls too, but we were expecting some of that. That surprise caused some last minute changes to the cabinet design which was not pleasant to make.

Even though I hope we never have to rip any walls open in the new home, we are well prepared this time. After all the plumbing, electrical and heating was in place I decided to go around the house and take photographs of the walls before the insulation and drywall went up.

Now I have a photo archive of where we have pipes, wire and vents in all the walls of the house.

So, if we ever have any questions about nailing something into the wall, trying to find a leaking pipe, or any other reason we'd love to have Superman's x-ray vision, we are well prepared.
