Most of what I post on my website and here in my newsletter has to have some sort element that can be recreated by many. But the story I received this week was so touching I decided it was worthy of including. I think you will too. Have a loving week. -- Michael .............................................................. ~~~ It's the Little Things ~~~ Going out for an ice cream cone for no special reason. .............................................................. ~~~ Sponsor ~~~ WHAT TO DO FOR FATHERS DAY JUNE 20? ARE YOU AMONG THE 17%
It is estimated that 83% of failed relationships could be prevented if couples asked each other the right questions. Every Spring she looked forward to breaking ground, working on the raised beds, planting seeds and seedlings and harvesting her own food.
I knew she had a progressive lung disease when I
met her, but didn't expect it to progress so rapidly. The last
Spring she started talking about giving up her garden - it was too
difficult to maintain, took too much energy. I promised her as long
as she lived that she would have a vegetable garden.
Despite the fact that I hated bugs and couldn't
tell the difference between a weed and a Walla Walla onion, I turned
over her ground by hand, and I dug trenches tossing soil to the
sides to make the raised beds. I composted, fertilized, and seeded
the garden. My Dana was able to plant some of the seedlings and
harvest the crop, but I made sure it was watered and weeded. She
would sit in her garden with oxygen tank next to her picking beans
or tending to a sick zucchini, and she looked so happy.
She died the following winter. That was seven
and a half years ago, but every spring I still break ground and
plant my seedlings in my own garden, and I send a thank you prayer
for all of the gifts my Dana gave to me, and the one gift I was able
to give to her. My labor of love.
