I am a full time college student, so I seldom have extra money to spare on gifts.  Since my steady boyfriend loves word puzzles, I visit websites for teachers and for children, and print off worksheets, puzzles, mazes, and games while I'm at school (free printing), and create a personalized puzzle book for him. 

A lot of the websites, such as http://www.school.discovery.com  have a "create your own" puzzle feature, where you can enter a list of words that are special to you (anniversary, place of first date, names of children, favorite things, etc) and make a word search puzzle with a lot of meaning.  You can even hide a secret message so that when your love has found all of the significant words, the leftover letters spell out "you're my everything" or whatever you choose. 

Once I've printed out the worksheets that I want, I create a cover (on MS Word) that says "Dan's One of a Kind Christmas Game Book", put in lots of clip art that goes with my theme, and staple everything together. It's a gift that comes from my heart and gives him lots of enjoyment!
