Thirteen years ago, my daughter and her fellow were discussing marriage with nothing totally official, but she did expect a ring for Christmas.  He purchased an ornament that opens to receive a gift, illed it with gold paper to disguise it, put an engagement ring inside, and slipped it on our tree.  Christmas morning, as she opened more and more gifts that did not contain a ring, she was getting a little anxious.  Eventually all gifts had been opened and still no ring.  She was disappointed as we all could see.  Later, after the family was out of the room and attending to food, he showed her the ornament that had never been on our tree before.  How much more delightful after the increased anticipation.  He's still a sweetheart of a son-in-law!.
