I have a couple of friends that before they were married, were separated by hundreds of miles. 

Over the course of a week, my female friend received "letters" in the mail.  Each envelope contained one piece of a homemade puzzle.  Even though it was pretty obvious what it said, he arrived unexpectedly at the end of the week with the last piece with "Love" written it.
