Romance in the Great Outdoors

There are few things more exhilarating that being outdoors and breathing fresh air and taking in the wonderful sights and sounds with one you love.

Here are some outdoor romantic ideas you might be able to incorporate into your relationship.

ROCK HOLIDAY

submitted by: Jeff Weeks

My girlfriend and I are in college, and we never have the cash to go to a nice romantic restaurant or anything so we made up our own little holiday based on the simple things.
We call it "Rock Holiday."

For this annual event we go out to a fast food restaurant, see a dollar movie, exchange rocks, and explain why we picked the one we picked. You might not think of a rock as a romantic gift, but there are many ways to make it romantic: make your own rock in a tumbler, find a rock that's heart shaped, find a brittle stone and make it heart
shaped, etc.

The things that can make this gift so special are the
creativity, the simplicity, and the fact that you have to work for it and put your heart into it. The first rock holiday, I searched a river bank for almost two hours to find that perfect rock.

ROCK SOLID LOVE

Submitted by: Jason Strickland

At my college campus, many of the fraternities used to display their Greek letters along the bank of a river by using some large rocks from below. Thus, as people would drive over the bridge near the campus, they would see the Greek letters representing the fraternity. This was usually done by pledges in the middle of the night.

I took that idea to heart and tried to get creative. A friend and I woke up about 3:00 am one morning and placed the rocks to represent the initials of my girlfriend (soon to be fiancée). So as she went by the next day, she saw her initials "carved" into the river bank, (along with about 1,000 other people who drove over the bridge that day). I must say, she was quite impressed and the biggest smile I have ever
seen came across her face.

A CANDLE NOT IN THE WIND

submitted by: Graydyn Young

I am a candle go hard when it comes to romance. It gives off the perfect light since its still dark but you can see. The thing I've done with candles that my girlfriend liked the most was this:

I am from northern Canada where there are large rock formations all over the place. So once while we were on vacation I took her to a beach and then when it got really late and dark I paddled her out to a rock formation that was guarded from the wind by being in a small bay. I had previously prepared the area with a blanket and
already burning red perfumed candles in the shape of a heart around the blanket. From the burning candles the sides of rock were already covered in red wax.

We stayed there for a long time enjoying ourselves and
I carved our initials into the rock (it was slate so it was easier than you're thinking) and poured the red wax into it, then I paddled her back home. The best thing is something she doesn't know about, the area is so isolated that I am sure the rock is still there with my candles still on it and our initials intact so in a few years I will take her back to the same rock for the memories.
